Flock to Songbird Bakery – launched by foodie friends who are having their cake and eating it

Fancy a ‘tweat’ next time you’re in Middlesbrough? Newly opened Songbird Bakery is the place for an afternoon break with home comforts.

Friends and business partners, Shelley Tyreman and Claire Philpott have propelled their business into launching their first shop in the heart of Middlesbrough. Songbird Bakery is now open on Bedford Street, Middlesbrough just in time for the bank holiday and Tour De Yorkshire.

With their bespoke designs and handmade cakes and cupcakes, Songbird caters for all ages and occasions. Shelley and Claire set themselves up to be known as the cupcake specialist across Teesside. A delightful harmony of flavour and design, you’ll be able to have a seat on their beautifully handmade furniture with a cupcake and a beverage.

The songbird bakery journey started just over two years ago. While working together, Shelley and Claire quickly learnt they both had the same passion for baking delicious cakes.

In their spare time, the pair would create wonderful delicacies for their friends and family but this soon caught on with customers from around the area wanting personalised birthday and even wedding cakes.

With Bedford street having a huge renovation and now known as the new foodie place, they felt that this was the dream location to place their imagination and flair.

“Our vision is clear, we want our customers to be able to sit and enjoy our products in a London inspired market environment, in the heart of Teesside,” said Shelley.

With summer on the horizon, this sure is the place to have a break with a cool refreshment and afternoon treat. The shop will house plenty of cupcakes of a variety of flavours such as Chocolate, Jaffa cake, Caramel, Lemon Meringue and Cookie Monster.

Each day they will offer set flavours and if you’re feeling fancy, you could always go for a slice of cake too. Songbird Bakery also offers a range of refreshments such as coffees, tea, hot chocolate and soft drinks.

With the reality of having their own unique cake shop in Teesside, they are set to build a cake making empire. The shop is also in the process of including more specialities in-store such as afternoon tea, milkshakes and even homemade brownies and cookies. Shelley and Claire are still taking bookings for cake and cupcake orders to pick up in store for all your upcoming occasions.

After undergoing a complete revamp, Bedford Street in Middlesbrough has set become a big part to any food lovers in the area. Songbird Bakery is alongside seven other independent food and beverage businesses that are all distinctive with a micropub, cocktail bar, coffee shop and pizza kitchen.
“We truly believe Songbird’s slick brand and high quality products meet with the standards of this transformation and we are happy to be part of it,” added Claire.
To match their delicate and extraordinary prepared cakes, the furniture is all bespoke and homemade with a sleek rustic vibe. With a window bench area and duck egg interior, you’ll feel in the comforts of your own home.

Bethany Dean, a Media student from Teesside University, has been helping Shelley and Claire with all their PR and social media in the run-up to their opening day.

“Its been a pleasure working with Shelley and Claire, I’ve enjoyed watching their business venture grow and I’m so pleased to be apart of the songbird bakery,” she added. “I’m so happy its open now for everyone to see the effort they have put in, I wish them the very best success.”

Songbird Bakery is open today from 11- 5pm, Sunday 11-3pm and closed Bank Holiday Monday.
